| Septic Tank Project |
| What Could Possibly Be Sweet About Sewage? |
Well, the fact that the Conservancy is offering assistance to help you maintain your system is sweet but that's pretty much where it ends! The SCC has funding to clean out septic systems and make minor repairs on several systems. The best part is the cost is minimal to the homeowner! When we say minimal, we're talking $28.30 for a clean-out. Sweet!!
The following subdivision have been targeted: Wayland Heights and Hancock Valley. Since the number of homes to be assisted is limited to 120, applications will be accepted. Applications may be picked up at the City of Winchester Personnel Office at 23 Wall Street or you may call to request one sent to you by mail at 859.745-4042. Systems in the need of repairs will be evaluated on existing system components, amount of discharge, location of discharge, watershed impact, available repair area, and feasibility of wastewater collection line installation.
Untreated sewage and waste is a nonpoint source pollutant. By properly maintaining your septic system, sewage can be effectively treated, thereby reducing nonpoint source pollution within the watershed. The SCC seeks to improve water quality conditions in the Strodes Creek Watershed by assisting with the maintenance and possible rehabilitation of your onsite wastewater system.
This project is funded in part by a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under §319(h) of the Clean Water Act through the Kentucky Division of Water to the City of Winchester *Grant # C9994861-04), a 20% cost share match from you, the homeowner, fee waiver for disposal of septic waste from Winchester Municipal Utilities, and partial project cost from the Clark County Fiscal Court. In return for the maintenance and repairs of your system, the SCC requests a sanitary sewer easement to your property, as needed, should sanitary sewers become available in your area.
