Collected Data 2008
Data collected in 2008 is considered interim monitoring. Interim monitoring reflects the water quality of the creeks when some best management practices (BMP's) or conservation practices have been installed but not all that are planned for a specified period of time. In our case, that specified period of time will end in 2010. At which time, we plan to conduct post-BMP monitoring or monitoring that is conducted after all proposed BMP's for that time period are installed.

To better understand what the monitoring results mean, consider the water quality regulations of 401 KAR 5:031, Section 7.

Recreational Waters
(1) Primary contact recreation water. Primary contact recreation water means those waters suitable for full body contact recreation during the recreation season of May 1 through October 31. An example of this would be wading or swimming.

The following criteria shall apply to waters designated as primary contact recreation use:
(a)Fecal coliform content or Escherichia coli content shall not exceed 400 colonies per 100 ml in twenty (20) percent or more of all samples taken during a thirty (3) day period for fecal coliform or 240 colonies per 100 ml for Escherichia coli. These limits shall be applicable during the recreation season of May 1 through October 31.

(2) Secondary contact recreation water. "Secondary contact recreation waters" means those waters that are suitable for partial body contact recreation, with minimal threat to public health due to water quality. An example of this would be fishing or boating.

The following criteria shall apply to waters designated for secondary contact recreation use during the entire year:
(a) Fecal coliform content shall not exceed 2,000 colonies per 100 ml in twenty (20) percent or more of all samples taken during a thirty (3) day period.
