Welcome indeed. A newly formed entity known as the Strodes Creek Conservancy (SCC) was developed to notify citizens of events and happenings occurring in the Strodes Creek watershed. More importantly, we will develop projects that will ultimately improve the water quality in the creeks that flow through the watershed. Realizing those improvements will require quite a bit of work from not only the SCC membership but also you! A watershed is simply the land area that drains rainfall or snowmelt to a nearby waterbody. That is simple enough. Unfortunately, runoff from activities that occur on that land area also enters the waterbody. With the proper best management practices in place, this can be a good thing for the creek and its tributaries. All too often, however, practices that have the potential to pollute creek water are the norm. The SCC has developed a number of projects that will be of benefit to homeowners and landowners while improving water quality. The SCC wants to be of help to you in your efforts to improve the water quality within our watershed. We welcome your thoughts, questions, and ideas.
"Clark County and the City of Winchester would like to be an example to other communities through their exercise of the Golden Rule, which says do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Mayor Dodd Dixon stated it best when he said, "When water leaves Clark County, it should be clean and useable for those who will be using it next". So, by doing our part to clean up water in the watershed, we hope communities upstream of ours will follow suit and pursue environmental responsibility.
